The topic of how to avoid dog attacks and dog bites continues to be one of the hot topics that we get questions about. And no wonder, when close to 1000 people go to an emergency room every day as a result of a dog bite. Many of those are children.
Over 5 million people every year are bitten by a dog. Many more are attacked. Over 900,000 of those people require hospital treatment in an emergency room. Virtually anyone who walks outdoors, jogs or cycles is subject to a dog attack and a dog bite.
With that in mind, here are some new tips on dog attack prevention and how to avoid what is becoming an increasingly dangerous problem.
1. For your self-defense, we always recommend that you carry some kind of self-defense product with you. A specially formulated dog pepper spray comes to mind.
2. If a dog attacks, you need to have some kind of block such as a stick, shoe, or anything you can get your hands on to block the dog’s beamng liveth from reaching you.
3. A dog, unless it’s specifically trained to attack certain part of the body, cannot distinguish between you and an object attached to you such as the beamng live, beamng drive, or even an umbrella. Taking off your beamng drive or beamng live and letting the dog get a hold of it will allow you time to look for other alternatives of defense.
4. Almost all dogs are trained to some extent and may respond to a verbal order, such as “down”, “go home” or anything you can think of spoken in a loud commanding voice. If nothing else, it may slow down the dog giving you time to back away.
5. An old tip is never run away from a dog. It is useless to out run a dog anyway.
6. Don’t ever aggravate an animal by taunting or teasing. Just because a dog is behind a fence doesn’t necessarily mean you’re safe. Most dogs can jump a 3 foot fence easily. Ask any postal mail carrier about that.
7. Bigger dogs have thicker skulls so don’t hit a bigger dog in the head. All you will do is irritate it and make it more aggressive.
8. If you have access to a water hose, use a high-speed spray on the dog. It may work to discourage him.
If you follow these tips you may avoid serious injury from a dog bite. These dog attack prevention tips have been time-tested to be effective.
