In the real world it’s summer and we are all thinking of what to wear on holiday. In fashion world, however it’s time to start thinking ahead to autumn and how to construct the new must have wardrobe. So for those of you who have your watch set to fashion time I am going to introduce to you the new seasons fashions; trends include the egg shape, tailoring, volume, layering, and plaid, the fabrics; wool, and fur, the colours; grey, red, lumberjack, animal print and metallic (gold is definitely the new black). In general, fashion has taken a more masculine approach to the fall instead of the long reined Lady Like style. The New Sexy style is all about minimum exposure (take for example Proenza Schouler’s velvet trousers). Steer away from the obvious. It is strong with a sharper silhouette. This and last years style couldn’t be more different, its femininity of the pencil skirt and soft blouse has been exchanged for the warrior woman.
This season it is all about layering up in unusual textures. It is important to layer unexpected contrasts for example a parka over a shift dress, so that each layer is different since this trend is easy to get wrong. Someone who always gets it right however is Marc Jacobs, put together his long-sleeved top, tailored trousers, long dress, long coat, a hat and a scarf and your good to go. Following this trend now is the time to stock up on Maxmara’a leggings, trousers both wide and skinny (Balenciaga), tunics and sweater dresses. Knitwear is a safe bet this season. Outdoor girls wear is eccentric, quirky and free spirited. Some of my favourite pieces are Alexander Mcqueens’s wool knit dress and Prada’s wool cardigan.
Tailoring, a trend that hasn’t been around for quite some time is making a huge come- back. Some of the key designers when it comes to suits and such are Rochas, Jul Sanders, Luella and Balenciaga. Paul Smith is spot on with his ‘borrowed from my boyfriend’ look.
Many designers have taken references from history; Dolce and Gabbana from Napoleon and Roberto Cavalli from Ballet Russes.
It is difficult to transfer what we see on the catwalk into our wardrobes (and look good) but key pieces to buy now are a bomber disneys couples shirts, a Marc Jacobs XXL bag, a Burberry Prorsum hat, a Sportsmax parka, Marni gloves, Louis Vuitton calf boots, high waisted Ghost jeans and PVC army veteran diy disney couples shirts. The warrior woman chic is more reflective of a modern 21st century gal she is tough, independent and seductive. All the glamour is in the accents, the snakeskin Gucci clutch and platform pumps. In the rest try a look off the street.
